Ford workshop and body shop

Ford's Italian range revolves around the Fiesta, Focus, Puma, Kuga and the Transit, Connect and Custom commercial vehicles. In recent years the line-up has shifted toward mild-hybrid (MHEV) versions of the 1.0 EcoBoost and the full-hybrid (FHEV) Kuga. We regularly cover the full range, with particular focus on the 1.0 GTDI three-cylinder EcoBoost and the sealing issues of the oil-bath timing belt on 2012-2018 models. Tommy By is an independent multi-brand workshop: under EU Regulation 461/2010 (Block Exemption), your Ford manufacturer's warranty stays valid when you service here, with parts of equivalent quality and the booklet stamped.

The Ford models we see most often

  • City and B-segment — Fiesta (including ST), Puma (including Puma ST)
  • C-segment — Focus (including Focus ST and RS), Kuga (including PHEV)
  • Large SUVs — Edge (no longer sold in Italy but still on the road)
  • Commercial vehicles — Transit, Transit Custom, Connect, Courier

Ford technical specifics

  • EcoBoost 1.0 GTDI three-cylinder — lively engine but with timing-belt attention (see FAQ)
  • EcoBoost 1.5 and 2.0 — the more solid four-cylinder versions, also fitted to the Focus ST and Puma ST
  • EcoBlue 1.5 and 2.0 diesel — equipped with SCR (AdBlue)
  • Historic TDCi — pre-EcoBlue diesel still widely on the road
  • MHEV and FHEV — mild or full hybridisation on the Kuga, Puma and Focus
  • SelectShift — automatic transmission
  • SYNC 3 / SYNC 4 — infotainment with FOTA updates where supported
FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Ford

Do you have experience with the oil-bath belt on the 1.0 GTDI EcoBoost?

Yes. On the 1.0 three-cylinder EcoBoost (Fiesta, Focus and EcoSport, roughly 2012-2018), the oil-bath timing belt degraded early, releasing debris that clogs the oil pump and can ultimately destroy the engine. Ford issued a recall campaign. We run a preventive inspection and, on at-risk cars, recommend the upgrade to the newer belt with a shorter interval.

Do you also service Ford Transit, Custom and Connect vans?

Yes. A meaningful share of our local customer base — tradespeople and small businesses in Mazzo, Rho and Pero — uses a Transit Custom or Connect every day. We handle scheduled services, brakes, dampers, tyres and EcoBlue diesel engine diagnostics. MOT-equivalent inspection is available up to 3.5 tonnes.

Can the SYNC infotainment system be updated?

SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 support FOTA updates when the car is connected and a FordPass account is active. We can check the firmware status during the scheduled service and apply manual USB updates on versions that allow them. After battery replacement, a re-pairing of Bluetooth devices may be needed.
