BMW workshop and body shop

We work on BMW 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Series and on the X1, X2, X3, X4 and X5 — TwinPower Turbo petrol, TwinPower Turbo diesel and iPerformance hybrids. The most demanding BMW feature in the workshop is Condition Based Service (CBS): there are no fixed-kilometre intervals, but rather a network of sensors that monitor oil, brakes, filters and pads and signal the next service through iDrive. Reading and resetting CBS correctly requires compatible diagnostic equipment. Tommy By is an independent multi-brand workshop: under EU Regulation 461/2010 (Block Exemption), your BMW manufacturer's warranty stays valid when you service the car here, provided the work follows the CBS intervals with parts of equivalent quality and the booklet is stamped.

BMW technical areas we cover

  • Modular B-series engines — B38 three-cylinder 1.5, B47 2.0 diesel, B48 2.0 petrol, B57 / B58 six-cylinder
  • TwinPower Turbo — BMW’s umbrella name for all turbocharged engines from 2011 onwards (single-turbo, twin-scroll or bi-turbo)
  • LongLife engine oil — specifications LL-01, LL-04 and LL-12 FE depending on engine: we use the oil listed in the technical sheet
  • xDrive AWD — all-wheel drive with electronically controlled multi-plate clutch
  • iDrive and CBS — sensor-driven maintenance management
  • Adaptive diagnostics — ECU coding and adaptation procedures after component replacement

The BMW jobs customers ask for most

  • BMW scheduled service with iDrive CBS reset
  • LongLife engine oil change (specification matched to the engine)
  • ZF 8HP gearbox oil and xDrive transfer-case oil renewal
  • Brake pad replacement with CBS wear-sensor reset
  • iDrive diagnostics and management after battery replacement
  • Same-day MOT-equivalent inspection, up to 3.5 tonnes
FAQ

Frequently asked questions about BMW

Do you handle the iDrive Condition Based Service (CBS)?

Yes. We read CBS through iDrive, identify which items are due (engine oil, micro-filter, front and rear pads, parking brake, brake fluid) and after the job we run the correct reset with compatible diagnostic equipment. The cluster-only manual reset works on a subset of items and does not respect the BMW logic for the next interval.

Are there known weak points on the B-series engines (B48, B58)?

The four-cylinder B48 and six-cylinder B58 are robust units, but at high mileage (beyond 150,000 km) some cars show above-average oil consumption and, on early production runs, occasional timing-chain wear. We monitor oil consumption during the scheduled service and inspect the chain if symptoms call for it.

Do you work on the xDrive all-wheel-drive system?

Yes. xDrive uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch for variable torque distribution; it needs transfer-case oil renewal at the specified intervals to avoid wind-up and premature wear. We diagnose system faults with compatible equipment.
