MINI workshop and body shop

MINI has been part of the BMW group since 2000, and that shows on the technical side: BMW engines (the B38 / B48, shared with the 1 Series, X1 and X2), a BMW chassis (the UKL1 / UKL2 platform) and BMW electronics with iDrive and Condition Based Service. The difference lies in the personality — iconic design, colourful trims, a deliberately fun character — but in the workshop the job is the same as on a BMW of equivalent segment, with compatible diagnostic equipment and full CBS management. Tommy By is an independent multi-brand workshop: under EU Regulation 461/2010 (Block Exemption), the MINI manufacturer's warranty stays valid when you service here, with parts of equivalent quality and the booklet stamped.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about MINI

Does a MINI follow the same service plan and CBS as a BMW?

Yes. The BMW Group intervals and the Condition Based Service (CBS) system apply to MINI as well. The third-generation MINI (F55 / F56 from 2014, F60 Countryman from 2017) is built on the UKL platform of the BMW Group. The scheduled service, original parts (LongLife oils, filters, brake pads) and the iDrive CBS reset procedures are all BMW.

Do you handle the MINI iDrive system and CBS with diagnostic equipment?

Yes. We read CBS through iDrive (engine oil, micro-filter, pads, brake fluid), carry out the work and then run the correct reset with compatible diagnostic equipment. The manual cluster reset only covers a subset of items and does not respect the BMW logic.

The electric MINI Cooper SE has limited range — does it need specific maintenance?

The first-generation Cooper SE (2020-2024) carries a 32 kWh battery with a real-world range of 190-220 km. No maintenance work will increase range, but periodic HV system checks (battery cooling, electrical isolation) preserve performance over time. The LFP batteries of the new-generation Cooper SE (2024+) need specific attention to the calibration cycle.
