Opel workshop and body shop

Since 2017 Opel has been part first of the PSA group and then of Stellantis, and that transition has had a real impact on maintenance: post-2017 Opel models share the PureTech and BlueHDi engines and the CMP / EMP2 platforms with Peugeot, Citroën and DS. On older-generation Opels (Astra J, Insignia A, Zafira C) the underlying architecture is still General Motors. We work on both generations with compatible diagnostic equipment. Tommy By is an independent multi-brand workshop: under EU Regulation 461/2010 (Block Exemption), the Opel manufacturer's warranty stays valid when you service here, with parts of equivalent quality and the booklet stamped.

The Opel models we see most often

  • Corsa (both the GM-base car and the post-2019 Stellantis version), including the Corsa-e electric
  • Astra (J, K and L) and Astra Sports Tourer
  • Mokka / Mokka X / Mokka-e — compact SUV
  • Grandland (X) — C-SUV, including the PHEV
  • Crossland (X) — B-SUV
  • Insignia — D-segment (off the range since 2022)
  • Zafira and Combo — MPV and LCV

Typical technical points

  • GM generation (pre-2018) — 1.0 / 1.4 / 1.6 turbo petrol, 1.6 CDTI diesel, GM parts
  • Stellantis generation (post-2018) — PureTech (with the pre-2019 oil-bath belt note, see FAQ), BlueHDi, parts shared with Peugeot / Citroën
  • Platforms — Delta II / D2XX on the GM generation, CMP / EMP2 on the Stellantis generation
  • OnStar system discontinued at the end of 2020 — no longer updated on post-2020 Opels
  • Mokka-e and Corsa-e electric — CMP platform shared with the Peugeot e-208 / e-2008
FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Opel

Do you have experience with the oil-bath belt of the PureTech fitted to post-2019 Opels?

Yes. Post-2019 Opels (Corsa F, Mokka B, post-facelift Grandland) carry the Stellantis PureTech 1.2, which on the early runs suffered early degradation of the oil-bath timing belt. We carry out a preventive inspection at the scheduled service and, on at-risk cars, suggest the upgrade to the new-generation belt. Stellantis has issued a campaign in a number of cases.

Is an Astra K (2015-2021) a true Opel or a Stellantis car?

The Astra K (2015-2021) is still a GM-based Opel (1.0 / 1.4 / 1.6 GM-Family-1 turbo engines, Delta II platform). The new Astra L (from 2022) is a Stellantis car on the EMP2 platform, shared with the Peugeot 308 and DS 4. Diagnostics and parts differ between the two generations, so we always verify the exact model before ordering parts.

Are there known issues with the 1.6 CDTI engines of older Opels?

The GM-based 1.6 CDTI units (Astra J, Insignia A) are solid, but they need attention to the EGR system and the DPF beyond 150,000 km. We carry out DPF regeneration diagnostics and EGR cleaning as part of preventive maintenance. AdBlue pump parts for the SCR models still have good availability.
