Volkswagen is the most heavily represented brand in our workshop after FIAT. We cover the Polo, Golf, Tiguan, T-Cross, T-Roc, Passat and Touareg, plus the Caddy, Transporter and Crafter commercial vehicles (up to 3.5 tonnes). The modern VW range is built around the MQB (compact and mid-size) and MLB Evo (top) platforms, with TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines, manual transmissions and the DSG dual-clutch gearbox. Tommy By is an independent multi-brand workshop: under EU Regulation 461/2010 (Block Exemption), your VW manufacturer's warranty stays valid when you service the car here, provided the work is carried out at the prescribed intervals, with parts of equivalent quality and the booklet stamped.

Frequently asked questions about Volkswagen

Does the first-generation 1.4 TSI EA888 still suffer from timing chain stretch?

Yes. On first-generation EA888 engines (Golf VI, Tiguan I, Passat 2008-2012), timing chain stretch typically appeared between 100,000 and 150,000 km, with cold-start noise and — in the worst cases — loss of timing. VW updated the chain tensioner. We run an acoustic diagnostic and, where stretch is confirmed, carry out the chain kit replacement.

Do you have VAS / ODIS diagnostic equipment for the VAG group?

Yes. We use tooling compatible with the group's VAS5054 / ODIS protocols (VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat). We read and manage the engine ECU, the DSG, ABS / ESP, climate control and the ADAS systems. Server-side coding that requires online SVM access is referred to the authorised dealer when necessary.

Modern TDIs use AdBlue — do you handle the SCR system?

Yes. Every Euro 6 TDI has SCR with AdBlue: we handle regular top-ups, AdBlue pump and NOx sensor diagnostics and the crystallisation issues on the AdBlue injector. We run the diagnostics during the scheduled service and carry out any pump or injector work when the system flags it.
